Session Description

The role of the principal has changed in the last decade into a more demanding and complex position.  This shift has resulted in a new paradigm for principal coaching and supervision work.  While it is clear that effective supervision requires regularly scheduled visits to schools to coach principals, how to conduct these visits in ways that result in improved practice has been more difficult.  This session will address how districts can plan and execute purposeful weekly site visits to transform schools and improve academic achievement.  Participants will learn practical strategies for defining high quality weekly sites visits and receive tools to support this work.

Josie Hernandez-Gutierrez, Ed.D.

Dr. Josie Hernandez-Gutierrez is passionate about her work to support central office transformation, principal supervision, and school turnaround.  During her consultancy, she has served districts in more than fifteen states across the USA that includes urban, rural, and suburban settings.  With more than two decades of experience, she has served in a number of roles including Chief Schools Officer and Assistant Superintendent in north Houston and Dallas respectively.  Josie also worked as a Director of School Leadership, Principal, Assistant Principal, and Teacher.  She graduated from Texas Christian University with her Bachelor’s degree in Education and then went on to attain both her Master’s and Doctorate in Education Administration at the University of North Texas.
