Turning Around Turnaround: Getting Comfortable with Complexity RCC

As a team member in the Texas Comprehensive Center at SEDL, Trent Sharp has worked with districts and schools, and currently supports state-level school improvement efforts. In this article, he recommends a pause in the rapid pace of turnaround practice, to reflect on and address gaps in current school turnaround interventions. The gaps he examines are a narrow focus, a narrow perspective, and a narrow skill set, as he recommends a broader scope of efforts, stakeholders and collaborations to address the complexity of factors that lead to the need for school reform.
